Carlos Jiménez
Carlos Jiménez. The Houston-based architect was born in San José, Costa Rica in 1959. He graduated from the Houston School of Architecture in 1981 and set up his firm in that city in 1982. He has since received numerous awards and seen his work exhibited in museums and galleries all over the world.
Jiménez has combined a busy professional practice with teaching in American and European universities. He has been a professor at the Rice School of Architecture since 1987 and a member of the Pritzker Prize jury since 2001.
Among his key works are several residential projects, such as the Saito, Lott, and Davis-Mosteller Houses, all in Houston, and cultural facilities like the Central Administration and Glassell Junior School of Art building at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston; the Spencer Studio Art building at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts; and the Richard E. Peeler Art Center at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He is currently designing what will be his first Spanish work, a civic center in Gandía.
