Carlos Solchaga Catalán

Born in Tafalla (Navarre), Carlos Solchaga earned his economics degree from the University of Madrid and pursued graduate studies at the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1971).

In October 1982 he was appointed Minister of Industry and Energy of the first socialist government. From 1985 to 1993 he held the post of Minister of Economy and Finance, and in August 1991 he was elected to chair the Interim Committee of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He is currently director-partner of the consultancy firm Solchaga Recio & Asociados.
